With summer in full swing, we’re delighted to welcome you to the latest issue of Genii, which is now live!

As executive editor Will Houstoun writes in this month’s The Genii Speak, we were just at the tail end of completing the July issue when we heard the sad news about Ton Onosaka’s passing. Ton-san was a dear friend to Genii and, indeed, to so many in the global magic community—that was his special gift. A friend to all. We are very grateful that Kei Izumi has assembled an illuminating article about Ton-san and his important role to magic.

As we reflect on community and connection, we are also pleased to share Mike Caveney’s take on the popularity and the shift to “The Specialty Convention.” From The Magic Gathering to Mac King’s Comedy ComClave (don’t worry, Mike explains everything), we get a look at the resurgence and meaningful impact that small conventions are making in magic.
